Defensive end Chris Clemons has been unable to practice with the Seattle Seahawks since his left knee gave out on the shoddy turf of FedEx Field in Seattle’s playoff victory over the Washington Redskins in January.
Clemons spent the entirety of training camp on the physically unable to perform list for the Seahawks while recovering from the torn ACL suffered against the Redskins. Clemons was activated and placed on the 53-man roster during final cuts over the weekend. It was a positive sign that Clemons was getting closer to returning.
Clemons will take another step forward on Wednesday as he’s expected to return to practice for Seattle.
“We’re really excited about that. He’s had a great preparation to get back, and it’ll be light on Wednesday, but he’s been really busting it,” head coach Pete Carroll said.
Carroll said that Clemons won’t play in the team’s opener against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and they will still take it slow before putting him back on the field. But for a player that has accumulated 33.5 sacks over the last three seasons, the Seahawks are excited they’ll see his return to the field sooner than later.
