Update: Moffitt's agent, Michael George told the Seattle Times the substance in question was Adderall, a medication commonly used to treat hyperactive disorder. Moffitt was prescribed the medicine but did not first apply for a waiver with the league.
The NFL announced Tuesday that rookie offensive lineman John Moffitt has been suspended for four games for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing drugs.
Moffitt is on the injured reserved list with torn ligaments in his right knee but can serve the games on the list. He won't get a game check for those games however.
Moffitt was Seattle's third-round draft choice (75th overall) in the 2011 NFL Draft and started all nine games at right guard this season.
We don't know the specifics at this point about how or why the policy the violated or what substance led to a violation.
Meanwhile, Russell Okung was placed on injured reserved and guard Mike Gibson was signed. Gibson started eight games a year ago for the Seahawks and was with the team in training camp this season but was a final roster cut in September.
