Jon Ryan and the Seahawks repordetly are close to a 6-year deal to keep the punter in Seattle. Ryan would have been an unrestricted free agent, but given the expected opt out of the CBA signed in 2006 (voted in 2008 that the Owners would opt out of the contract) make him a restricted free agent. However it looks like he won't have the option to sign with a team other than Seattle. According to Seattle Times Danny O'Neil the two sides are on the verge of the extension being signed. The terms are $9.1 with $1.6 of it being a signing bonus. Had Ryan not signed Seattle would have had the chance to sign him to a 1-year tender and match any offers made to him. That appears to be unlikely as the two are coming together on a long-term deal.
