The NFL owners have approved a proposed CBA, ESPN.com and the NFL Network are reporting.
The vote at their meeting in Atlanta was 31-0, with the Raiders’ Al Davis abstaining. The deal would be for 10 years. The league now is awaiting the players’ approval, and they could vote tonight.
In other reported details: The likely start of training camps is estimated to be Aug. 1, sources said. Although NFLLabor.com is saying camps would open on a limited basis on July 27, if the players ratify the proposed CBA.
Commissioner Roger Goodell announced at a news conference in Atlanta shortly after the completion of the vote that the league has canceled the Aug. 7 Hall of Fame preseason game between the Rams and Bears.
Goodell said team training facilities would open Saturday and the new league year would begin next Wednesday, contingent on the NFLPA’s recertification.
Here’s the report from ESPN.com.
