The Cleveland Browns claimed Seahawks offensive lineman Michael Bowie on Sunday, a day after he was designated as waived/injured by Seattle with a shoulder issue that will require surgery and keep him out of action for 4-6 months.
The waived/injured designation made Bowie available to be claimed by other teams with the knowledge that he is injured, but would have allowed the Seahawks to place him on injured reserve had he not been claimed.
Bowie, a seventh-round pick of Seattle in 2013, was expected to compete for the starting right-tackle position with 2014 second-round pick Justin Britt. He started eight games in the regular season and one in the playoffs last season.
