The Seahawks have released linebacker Lofa Tatupu after asking him to restructure his contract and the 28-year old linebacker declining to do so.
The Seahawks save $6.1 million in cap space this season with the move. Some have speculated that it is still possible that Tatupu returns to the Seahawks if he can't get the money he's seeking elsewhere, but a team release said the two sides have "mutually parted ways".
The Seahawks are said to be actively pursuing a linebacker to replace Tatupu. If he is indeed gone for good, and another starting LB is not brought in, David Hawthorne would assume the middle linebacker starters job.
