Update: Owens' contract is for the veteran minimum of $925,000 but only $640,000 will count against the salary cap with $65,000 in bonuses, according to a report by Andrew Brandt of ESPN. Cheap if he produces, a million out the door if it doesn't pan out. Either way it's a gamble for a lot of different reasons.

The Seahawks have signed veteran wide receiver Terrell Owens to a one-year contract, according to a report by Fox Sports.

The 36-year old was in Seattle Monday for a workout and apparently impressed Seahawks coaches with his blazing fast 4.5 40-yard time.

The Seahawks will be Owens' sixth NFL team since he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the third-round of the 1996 draft.

As we noted earlier, signing Terrell Owens to many would seem like a risky move for the Seahawks to make.

The controversy which always surrounds T.O. aside, it is now clear Carroll must really feel strongly about the need for an additional receiver this season. And of course there is always the factor that Carroll believes he can turn guys around who had problems and turn them into productive players under his system.

And truth be told the locker room issues clearly present in Dallas did not necessarily occur in Cincinnati, his last pro stop in 2010. Last May, even his former teammate quarterback Carson Palmer had good things to say about T.O.

Still at the end of the day, you have to wonder if the Seahawks are really that desperate at wide receiver and if it points to bigger question marks about Sidney Rice et al. Rice for one will be returning from shoulder surgery.
