Stimulus package, anyone care to explain to me how building a dog park in the town I was born in is going to stimulate anything? Of course there's plenty of other silly stuff too but let's start there.

Anyone else feel that the Timothy Geithner appointment felt like one of those cheesy old action movies where the government had to pull some bad ass criminal out of prison because he was the only guy that could get the job done? Who are we kidding, this guy is THAT smart, that he's the one guy in the nation that can fix this economy. At worst he's a crook cheating the IRS, at BEST he's a guy who couldn't figure out how to pay his taxes, yet he's THAT guy???

Not to mention the others, screw paying taxes, that' s just for the middle class anyways ...

ISRAEL? Is anyone concerned about this? Put the shoes on the other foot. So we have a cease fire with Canada. During that cease fire Canada shoots over 100 missiles at us. They do it t 7:45 am when they know kids are going to school to inflict more damage. They put the missile stocks and launchers on top of their schools and hospitals. We get sick of it. We finally strike back.

And then we're condemned as horrible souless peoples because we broke our ceasefire. We give them ample time and warning, even passing out flyers. But we do attack the schools and hospitals (AFTER the warnings) because that's where the missiles are, but we're condemned.

Do you know that in Islam Muhammed is regarded as a hero because he agreed to a cease fire and then broke it and conquered a city? Arafat at one time quoted this and said they'd do the same. They ALWAYS take peace treaties, it's ingrained on them through their religion and they consider it an upper hand. Do you also know that the UN has NEVER condemned an Arab nation for their attack on Israel but has ALWAYS condemned Israel for their retaliations? How can this be?

That's enough for now, but there's so much more to get to. I'm sure conservatives everywhere thought they hit the gold mine in material with Clinton, I don't even think they know where to begin with Barry Hussein ...

As far as the stimulus package, I think it is too big. But I do not believe that giving people tax cuts alone will solve the problem (only 1/3 of the tax rebates sent by Bush last year were spent, the other 2/3 were saved. Saving does not help the economy).

There are two course of action. The one in line with classical economics and the one in line with Keynesian economics. Classical economics will not work because it requires the government to do nothing and let the market freely correct itself. I do not care if you are a Republican or Democrat, liberal or conservative. You know your favorite politician is not going to sit idly by and do nothing.

So you are left with Keynesian economics because politicians need to feel important. So Keynesian economics says the government needs to spend money and cut taxes. But always remember (and most forget) that the inverse is true. When the economy heats up, taxes need to be raised and spending needs to be cut.

The fight is always unemployment v. inflation. Oddly, "socialist" countries like Sweden and Canada have more stable economies than we do and are considered by the 2008 Global
Competitiveness Report to have better capitalistic free market economies.

Too big? An increase to the federal budget of 80%, BY FAR the largest increase in our history and much of it going to global warming, er, I mean 'climate change' research, converting cars into making them greener and loads of other nonsense. Look, I'm all for infrastructure, invest in the roads, that's great, but this isn't any 'stimulus' package, very little of that money is being spent to stimulate anything other than payback some lobbyists.

Yeah, I'm hardcore and wouldn't let the government buy up anything. We've become a credit first economy and I'd like to see things fall apart so that we could become a cash first economy again. I know that's not going to happen, neither side would allow that, but where does this spending end, how much is too much?

It's not like the stimulus package is the end, how much is uni health care going to cost? What happens in case of another emergency, like the need to go to war? Is anyone asking how or when we're going to pay any of this back?

Um, didn't the Soviet fall because of out of control spending? Why do we think we can survive it? Tax cuts alone are not the answer - giving someone a $1000 check ISN'T the answer, but cutting taxes on small business sure would help, not just a once or twice a year check in the mail, but real tax cuts that businesses could count on to be there week in and week out.

Don't confuse cutting taxes with the occasional check in the mail. I would much rather have $50 given back to me on each paycheck than I would receive a $1200 check.

If your boss comes in and commands you to do something, do you feel good about it? No way. Rather if your boss leads by example, motivates, and inspires, you are much more likely to buy into his ways. Same with Israel. I think they are a joke. I think they are no different than all the Muslims you refer to. They just happen to ally with the U.S.
