Chris Clemons’ performance against the Arizona Cardinals in the Seahawks’ home opener looked good enough on the field Sunday, even better during the coaches’ video review on Monday and now that notion is getting a third positive opinion – all the way from Atlanta.
“Clemons on the defensive line is one of the better ones you see,” Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said this morning during a conference-call interview. “He’s quick off the ball; really good pass-rush guy. So we’re going to have to know where he’s at this week.”
Clemons will be at this usual spot – the “Leo” end position, on either side of the line – and coming after Ryan. The Falcons’ QB has been sacked 13 times in three games, compared to 26 all of last season.
Ryan is “up” on his Clemons’ viewing, of course, because the Falcons play at CenturyLink Field on Sunday.
“They’ve got some very talented players up front, I think that’s the strength of their group,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said of a Seahawks defense that ranks No. 10 in the league. “Chris Clemons is an outstanding pass-rusher. You’ve always got to be aware of where he is aligned.”
Sunday will be a return engagement for Ryan and the Falcons, who won here in Week 15 last season. Ryan threw three TD passes in Atlanta’s 34-18 victory.
