The Seahawks made a couple of roster moves today, releasing kicker Brandon Coutu and defensive lineman Ryan Sims and adding defensive linemen David Howard and Maurice Fountain.
Coutu, a seventh-round draft choice in 2008, was re-signed last month to compete with veteran Jeff Reed for the spot that opened when Olindo Mare signed with the Carolina Panthers in free agency. Reed, although sidelined briefly with a sore groin, displayed a stronger leg in training camp than Coutu.
Sims was signed to add depth to the defensive line, but missed most of camp with an undisclosed injury.
Fountain, a 6-4, 270-pound end, was on the practice squad at the end of last season. He will wear No. 70.
Howard (6-3, 298) is a defensive tackle from Brown. He was a seventh-round draft choice by the Tennessee Titans in 2010, but released before the season started. He was last with the Oakland Raiders. Howard will wear No. 65, which Wilkerson had been wearing. Wilkerson has switched to No. 97, which had belonged to Sims.
