Seahawks defense vs. Browns QB Colt McCoy: The word “plaster” is being used liberally by the Seahawks’ defenders this week. As in, plaster the man you’re covering because McCoy can make big plays after breaking from the pocket. So it will be up to the linemen and linebacker to contain McCoy if he runs, so the defensive backs can stay on their coverage to limit the big-play possibilities. McCoy has put the ball up 45 and 61 times in the Browns’ past two games. That’s not the way first-year head coach Pat Shurmur wants to play, but it’s the way the Seahawks have to expect McCoy to play.
One to watch
Seahawks C Max Unger or Lemuel Jeanpierre and OGs Robert Gallery and John Moffitt vs. Browns DTs Phil Taylor and Ahtyba Rubin: Unger did not practice this week because of a foot injury he got in the pre-bye week victory over the New York Giants, so Jeanpierre could make his first NFL start. Gallery is back after missing three games with a groin injury that required a surgical procedure. Moffitt is a rookie making his sixth NFL start. They will have to contend with the large and disruptive duo of the 335-pound Taylor and the 330-pound Rubin, who rank 3-5 in the league among D-linemen in average tackles and have combined for 4½ of the Browns’ 13 sacks.

Seahawks KOR Leon Washington vs. Browns KOR Josh Cribbs: Washington has returned seven kickoffs for touchdowns, including three last year in his first season with the Seahawks. Only one player in NFL history has more – Cribbs, with eight. Neither has a scoring return this season, but each feels he is close to breaking one. Washington is averaging 22.5 yards, with a long of 36 yards. Cribbs is averaging 25.2 yards, with a long of 52. Neither team can allow Washington or Cribbs to pop a game-changing return in this one.
One tough task
Browns CB Dimitri Patterson vs. Seahawks WR Doug Baldwin: Baldwin doesn’t just lead the Seahawks in receptions (20) and receiving yards (330), he is second among rookies in the NFC in those categories and his 16.5-yard average and nine third-down receptions top all rookie receivers. As good as he has been, Baldwin was at his most productive in the upset of the Giants, catching eight passes for 136 yards and what proved to be the game-winning TD in the fourth quarter. Patterson could start on the left side if Joe Haden can’t play, but he’ll still slide inside in the nickel. His size (200 pounds), experience (fifth season) and skills make him a tough matchup for Baldwin.
