The bad news on Walter Thurmond is even worse.
The second-year cornerback will need surgery on the ankle he injured in Sunday’s loss to the Browns in Cleveland and is looking at an extensive rehab process, coach Pete Carroll just announced during his day-after news conference.
Thurmond has a high sprain as well as a fracture in the ankle.
“He’s got a pretty torn up ankle,” Carroll said. “It’s a tough deal because he’s just getting started and just getting rolling.”
Thurmond had started the past two games for Marcus Trufant, who was placed in injured reserve last week with a disc problem in his back.
Thurmond was placed on IR today, when cornerback Ron Parker was claimed off waivers to fill his roster spot. Parker had been with the team in training camp.
Carroll said rookie Richard Sherman will move into the starting lineup on the left side and that Roy Lewis also is a factor in the situation that has seen the Seahawks place Trufant and Thurmond on injured reserve the past two weeks.
