I have the balanced rankings for the offenses and defenses. This measures the performance on the left, middle, and right side of the field. We enter in every play for every team to come up with the more detailed performance on how our teams are doing.

Passing Offense

Best

The Indianapolis Colts are now ranked the best pass offense. They increased their ability to gain yardage on the right and left side of the field. They have an average gain over 110 yards a game on both of these sides. In the middle the Colts also average 85.6 yards a game. Considering the injuries this team has overcome, Peyton Manning is proving again that he is a leader and can dominate throwing the ball.

The second best passing offense is the San Diego Chargers. This team has performed well statistically all year. The mistakes they have made on special teams has cost them but not their passing offense. If they start to limit those mistakes this team could live up to its expectations. The Chargers average over 100 yards a game on all three areas left, middle, and right side of the field.

The third best passing offense is the Dallas Cowboys. This may be a surprise to some people but the Cowboys even with Tony Romo out has still performed well throwing the ball. Their receivers have dropped a lot of passes but John Kitna has still racked up 749 total yards so far. This team in spite of its losing record is a passing threat. I could just say Miles Austin and most people would understand but the statistics also speak for themselves. The Cowboys gain over 126.5 yards a game on the right side of the field. They nearly gain 100 yards a game on the left and middle.

Worst

The Tennessee Titans are still ranked dead last in our balanced passing offense. The acquisition of Randy Moss is still working its way into the passing schemes of the Titans. They need this passing offense to improve if they are going to challenge the Colts, and Texans. The AFC South is not a push over division. The Titans average 76.1, 43.5, and 41.4 yards a game on the left, middle, and right side of the field. No other team averages less than 50 yards a game on two areas of the field.

The 31st ranked passing offense is the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers are not much better averaging 50.3, 49.0, and 78.1 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides of the field. This is a major reason the panthers are 1-7. Jimmy Clausen has had troubles but looks to be the starter for the next game. Tony Pike is the third string QB. Clausen has thrown for 501 yards and a touchdown. Compare that to Kitna and you can see the difference in the passing offenses.

The 30th ranked passing offense is the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs need to improve this area of their game if they are going to continue to stay on top of the AFC West. Matt Cassel has thrown for 1,412 yards this season. The team averages 67.1, 44.9, and 73.6 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides of the field. The Chiefs are a run first offense and the pass is second fiddle.

Shout Out Performances

The Denver Broncos did not make the top three but they are right behind at number four. The Broncos are dominating the left side of the field. They average 120.3 yards a game on the left. The Washington Redskins are ranked 16th in the pass, but they still average 103.8 yards a game throwing in the middle of the field. Controlling the middle is difficult and props need to be given to the Skins domination there.

Rushing Offense

Best

The statistical best balanced rushing offense is the Oakland Raiders. Darren McFadden has rushed for 757 yards this season. The lat two years McFadden rushed for 856 total yards combined. This is a big improvement in the running game for the Raiders and the main reason they are now on a three game winning streak. This team averages 55.1, 52.7, and 70.9 yards a game on the left, middle, and right side.

The number two rushing team is the Kansas City Chiefs. They are right there with the Oakland Raiders but the Raiders edge them out slightly. The Chiefs need to make sure their rushing game stays dominant. It appears to have some weaknesses in the past two games. Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones make a great rushing tandem. Together they have rushed for 1,289 yards. The Chiefs average 78.3 yards a game on the left side. This is the best of any team for any area of the field. Several teams can not even average passing the ball for that many yards on the left side.

The third best rushing offense is the New York Jets. The Jets average 52.3, 31.5, and 58.8 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides of the field. LaDainian Tomlinson is a great off season pickup for the Jets. He is averaging 4.9 yards a carry and 599 total yards this season. Shonn Green is doing well also with 391 yards.

Shout Out Performances

The Jacksonville Jaguars are ranked 17th in total rushing but they dominate in the middle of the field. They average 66.3 yards a game rushing in the middle of the field. This is a dominant offensive line when they make that middle push. A sense of pride for the team. The top five running backs are Arian Foster, Houston with 864 yards, Adrian Peterson, Minnesota 857 yards, Ahmad Bradshaw, Giants 765 yards, Darren McFadden, Oakland 757 yards, and Michael Turner, Atlanta733 yards.

Worst

The Denver Broncos are ranked number 32. They only gain 26.0, 24.6, and 23.8 yards a carry. This is embarrassing and an area that can not be ignored. If the Broncos want to be relevant they need to improve on their running game. The Broncos are 2-6 and on the outside looking in.

The 31st ranked team is the Detroit Lions. I am not sure why the Lions abandon the run so easily. They Jahvid Best is a good running back. They are more intent on passing the ball. Best has only 345 yards with 4 rushing touchdowns.

The 30th ranked rushing offense is the Dallas Cowboys. This is a surprise for many Cowboy fans and an argument can be made that the lack of the run is a big reason the Cowboys are not living up to their expectations. They average 32.3, 26.3, and 16.4 yards a game on the left, middle, and right side. 16.4 yards a game on the right side is dead last in the league. Usually rushing in the middle is more difficult but many teams can rush better in the middle than the Cowboys can on the right side.

Passing Defense

Best

The New Orleans Saints have the number one ranked pass defense. They are only allowing 62.6, 46.3, and 75.8 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides of the field. They are not the ball hawks they were last year. Jabari Greer leads the team with 2 interceptions and one run back for a touchdown. That being said they are stopping the pass and keeping teams in check.

The second best pass defense is the Oakland Raiders. This team is much improved and it is hard to predict the future but the Raiders are becoming relevant. They will challenge for the AFC West. The pass defense only allows 75.4, 55.3, and 67.4 yards a game. The Raiders are tied for second in sacks with the Chargers at 27. Only the Packers have more sacks with 28.

The number three ranked pass defense is the Carolina Panthers. This is a bit of a surprise. They give up only 76.5, 44.6, and 78.3 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides. The Panthers are not dominant in any one category. As a team they are able to stop the passing attacks. In most categories they are the top half of all teams.

Shout Out Performances

The San Diego Chargers, New York Giants, and St. Louis Rams are all dominant passing defenses. The Giants only give up 169.8 yards a game second only to the New Orleans Saints. We’ve mentioned the Chargers have 27 sacks. The Rams are another team that gets the job done with the pass defense without domination in any one category.

Worst

The Texans are again at the bottom of the list. This team has a 4-4 record and could do much better if they were able to put together a pass defense. They allow 99.8, 112.3, and 106.4 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides of the field.

The Washington Redskins can do a lot right but the pass defense is not one of them. The Skins give up 86.9, 114.3 and 114.8 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides. This puts them at number 31 for total balance pass defense.

Rounding out the bottom three is the Cleveland Browns. They are the 30th pass defense averaging 90.4, 75.4, and 113.1 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides. The Browns are in a tough division with the Ravens and the Steelers so this weakness needs to be addressed.

Rushing Defense

Best

The rushing defense happens to be my favorite statistic. It is second only to the rushing offense. Controlling the run is important to the game and I believe it is the most important. The Pittsburgh Steelers are the number one rushing defense. If you listen to people talk they mention that the Steelers are one of the best teams and this ranking is more proof that the Steelers are tops. They only allow 26.3, 10.5, and 22.8 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides of the field.

The second dominating rush defense is the New York Giants. What do you know they are considered another dominant NFL team. The Giants only give up 35.5, 19.8, and 20.4 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides. The Giants have only allowed 4 rushing touchdowns. It is not the least but still a good performance.
The Chicago Bears are the third best rushing defense. This week they go against Adrian Peterson. This is a true test of the teams performance. So far this year the team has only allowed 31.3, 12.9, and 39.6 yards a game. If this continues the rushing defense could keep the Bears in the hint for the NFC North division title.

Shout Out Performances

The Baltimore Ravens are dominant defending the run in the middle of the field. They are only averaging 13.4 yards a game in the middle. Only the Bears and Steelers are better. The Minnesota Vikings run defense is usually the tops in the league and this year not as much. Their best performance is defending the right side allowing only 27.3 yards a game. Only the Giants, Steelers, and Jaguars are better defending the run on the right side.

Worst

The Buffalo Bills can’t get a break this year and their rushing defense is a big reason they have yet won a game. The Bills average 61.9, 57.9, and 58.8 yards a game. It appears that any team can run at will against the Bills.

The 31st team is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This is a team that has a lot going for it. They are challenging the tough NFC South with a 5-3 record. Their defense averages are 54.5, 42.6, and 50.6 yards a game on the left, middle, and right sides. This needs to improve if they are gong to stay competitive in this division.

The last of the bottom worst rushing defenses is a tie with the Denver Broncos and the Arizona Cardinals. The Broncos average 63.9, 41.5, and 42.1 yards a game. The Cardinals average 59.4, 28.5, and 59.5 yards a game on the left, middle and right sides. These two teams are having trouble putting together wins.
