Alex Gibbs is saying that Russell Okung will be the starting LT for the Seahawks even though Walter Jones has yet to announce his retirement.

Also, Pete Carroll says the Seahawks will have an announcement on Walter Jones next Thursday. That announcement will likely be his retirement.

What would you do if Jones said he didn't want to retire because his knee is better?

They were saying that if he is back in 2010 it would be a bonus so I'd assume they would use Jones as the backup and mentor. I'm pretty sure this announcement will be his retirement though.

I think drafting Okung kind of forces Walt's hand... it would be selfish of him to come back, knowing he is not capable of playing at his hall of fame level and only hamper the development of Okung.

Maybe they'll announce he's retiring and going to come work for the organization as an assistant offensive line coach... ?

It would be nice, but they have Alex Gibbs and he's running a different blocking scheme than Jones knows. Maybe they would use Jones as a consultant, but I think if he retires he's done with football. A guy of his caliber will get a press conference so no matter what he'll get the media's attention.

He could still help the young guys with their fundamentals. Regardless of scheme Gibbs is running, a guy like Walt can only help the young guys become better OL in this league.

I know it won't happen, but sure would be nice if it did.

I hate to see him go but I think it is the time for him to bow out...if he would stick around and help mentor okung along with hamilton I think okung could grow into something very special faster then anyone can imagine.

Just over 24 hours until one of the Greatest LTs ever to play the game let alone wear a Seahawk uniform will be announcing his retirement. It's looking more and more that his final game as a Seahawk will be that Thanksgiving loss to the Cowboys in Dallas, but don't think it's the last time we ever see him! I would be shocked if Jones isn't the last player to wear that No. 71 jersey in Seattle and it's only time until he's in the Wall of Fame let alone... The Hall of Fame.
