Because of the 136-day lockout that erased the spring minicamps and OTA sessions, and the fact that the Seahawks played on the opening night of the preseason, training camp has often resembled a fire drill as the players and coaches scrambled to make up for lost time and get ready for primetime.
But playing a Thursday night opener last week has give them extra time as they prepare for Saturday night’s home opener against the Minnesota Vikings at CenturyLink Field.
“We got through the game and got enough installed that we could play a game,” coach Pete Carroll said after Saturday’s practice, referring to the 24-17 victory over the Chargers in San Diego.
“Now we’re going back to the basic part of our installation; try to recapture some of the things that we weren’t able to capture in so much of the time that’s been missed.”
That will continue this afternoon, when practice is at 1:45, and Monday. The players are off Tuesday.
“After Tuesday, we’ll come back and get into the Minnesota game,” Carroll said. “This is really just a good time – back to the fundamental ball, back to the A-B-C’s of it all.
“So it’s kind of fun.”
It certainly was Saturday, when a camp-high turnout of 2,314 fans was treated to the most-spirited – and best – practice of camp.

Tony Ventrella will still tell us that the "Play of the Day" during practice was turned in by Golden Tate or Deon Butler! Neither of them can run routes correct enough to play on Sundays!
