Doug Baldwin’s 55-yard touchdown reception in the Seahawks’ opener against the 49ers on Sunday was good enough to get the free agent from Stanford a finalist spot for the first Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week award this season.
Baldwin caught four passes for 84 yards in the 33-17 loss to the 49ers and each produced a first down, including a 12-yarder on third-and-9, a 12-yarder on third-and-10 and a 4-yarder on fourth-and-1.
Baldwin has some stiff competition for the weekly honor: Carolina QB Cam Newton, who passed for a 422 yards against the Cardinals; Green Bay receiver/returner Randall Cobb, who had a 108-yard kickoff return for a TD and also caught a TD pass against the Saints; Washington linebacker Ryan Kerrigan, who had an interception return for a TD and five tackles against the Giants; and Arizona cornerback/punt returner Patrick Peterson, who had an 89-yard punt return for a TD and five tackles against the Panthers.
Voting will continue until 9 a.m. on Friday at NFL.com/rookies.
