A recap of the day’s activities at Virginia Mason Athletic Center for Nov. 4:
FOCUS ON
Tarvaris Jackson.
Jackson participated fully in practice today, after being limited on Thursday because of soreness in his right shoulder after practicing on Wednesday. So whether he plays in Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys will be determined by how his strained pectoral responds after the work he got today.
That was the word after practice from coach Pete Carroll, who added that the final decision will be made on Sunday.
“I don’t know,” Carroll said when asked about Jackson’s precarious status. “I don’t know until we get there. We’re going to keep fingers crossed because we’d love to have him and he’d love to play.
“If it’s even close, he’s going to tell me can. So we’ve just got to evaluate it as we go and we’ll watch him throw in pregame (warm-ups) to make sure it’s right.”
Jackson is listed as probable on the injury report, which generally means the player can indeed play.
Jackson has not started since the Week 5 win over the New York Giants, when he injured the shoulder on his throwing arm. He was not active of the game against the Cleveland Browns two weeks ago and then came on in relief of Charlie Whitehurst last week and passed for a season-high 323 yards against the Cincinnati Bengals
“Tarvaris does not feel great. He’s barely making it through practice,” Carroll said. “But he did.”
Still, Carroll said, “We go into the weekend thinking he’s got a chance to play for us.”
PLAYER WATCH
David Hawthorne. After an injury-induced slow start, the player his teammates call “Heater” is starting to, well, heat things up. Again.
Hawthorne missed the season opener because of knee injury he got during the preseason. The injury also affected his play in Week 2. But in the past five games, Hawthorne has registered 43 tackles to take the team lead with 46.
Included in his post-knee push are two of the team’s three double-digit tackle efforts of the season: 10 against the Falcons and 11 against the Browns. Linebacker Leroy Hill has the other (11 against the Cardinals).
“That’s important for us,” defensive coordinator Gus Bradley said. “I think ‘Heater’ is just getting healthier, to where he’s showing up; but still very important to our defense as far as a catalyst. He makes the calls and everyone’s comfortable with him being there, setting the fronts and stuff.
“He’s done a nice job for us at that position.”
Hawthorne also played in the middle in 2009, after Lofa Tatupu went out with a season-ending injury, and led the team with 116 tackles. Last season, Hawthorne moved to the weakside and again led the club with 105 tackles. He’s back in the middle this season, after the release of Tatupu in late July, and again leading the team – although free safety Earl Thomas (45), Hill (44) and strong safety Kam Chancellor (43) are right behind Hawthorne.
Hawthorne is looking to become the sixth player to lead the team in tackles for three consecutive seasons, joining linebacker Terry Beeson (1977-79), linebacker Michael Jackson (1980-82), linebacker Fredd Young (1985-87), linebacker Chad Brown (1997-99) and Tatupu (2005-08) – the only one to do it four seasons in a row. Free safety Eugene Robinson also did it four times, but in 1988-89 and 1992-93; and linebacker Anthony Simmons did it three times, but in 2000-01 and 2003.

Morrah, Branch and Vobora, who tweaked his calf in practice on Thursday, will be game-day decisions, Carroll said. They did not practice today. If Branch can’t play, Clinton McDonald will start. Rice was back after sitting out Thursday.

STAT DU JOUR
The Seahawks have almost as many players on their 53-man roster from the state of Texas (six) as those who played in their last game against the Cowboys in Texas (eight) – on Nov. 1, 2009. Here’s a list of those remaining players:
P Jon Ryan
RB Justin Forsett
LB Leroy Hill
MLB David Hawthorne
C Max Unger
DE Red Bryant
WR Ben Obomanu
DT Brandon Mebane
UP NEXT
The team flew to Dallas following a morning practice on Friday, and the players will have a walk-thru on Saturday in Texas.
Also, daylight savings time ends at 2 a.m. Sunday, so turn your clocks back an hour or you’ll be late for the 10 a.m. PST kickoff.
YOU DON’T SAY
“Oh man. The more we’ve watched him the more that you grow to appreciate he is a big-time QB, in that he handles everything. … He’s a big problem.” – Carroll on Romo
