That doesn't make much sense to me at all. LT's career is done, unlike Thomas Jones' career. Yet LT gets more money and will likely be a backup to Greene in New York.

This is not accurate. Thomas Jones was due a $3 million roster bonus and $2.8 million in base salary for 2010. Jones' total salary for this season would be $5.8 million v. Tomlinson's $5.1 million over 2010 and 2011.

If I were the Jets I still would have kept Thomas Jones even if the cost was high. It's definitely an easy way to make more money.

Number 18's saying that they were also going to have to give him a $3 million roster bonus on top of whatever contract they had to match. Letting him go to the Chiefs allowed them to keep that $3 million roster bonus.

Of course the Jets could match the offer. Jones was an Unrestricted Free Agent. Any team in the league could have matched the offer. The Jets had no rights to him. Jones took a pay cut by signing with the Chiefs. Had the Jets not cut him, he would have cost more than LT.
