the Seahawks defense decoded Mannings hand signals at the line.;)

from the dailymail:

The Seattle Seahawks have revealed that a good part of their defensive strategy at the Super Bowl came from the fact that they were able to decode Peyton Manning's hand signals on the field.
Controversial corner back Richard Sherman said that he and his fellow defenders cracked the code that the Denver Broncos quarterback was using, meaning that they knew exactly what to expect for each play.
'We knew what route concepts they liked on different downs, so we jumped all the routes. Then we figured out the hand signals for a few of the route audibles in the first half,' he said.

An ex-player (can't remember who) on the field reporting, said that Earl Thomas was calling out the plays that were coming 7 out of 10 times. How he knew that I have no idea. It couldn't be a lucky guess with those odds.

Knowing the Offensive plays on Defense always helps. ;)

Its definitely a part of the game and perfectly legit to do so. However it calls into question any talk of the greatest defense ever, if not stops it everywhere but among the Seahawks faithful.

You still have to play football, all great defenses study their opponents, understands their route concepts, tendancies, and yes, can make adjustments at the LOS. That's why you see the defense calling out coverages silly!

This is no way dampens the fact that this defense simply put the fear of god in Payton Manning, and those WR's and destroyed their will to play. They undressed the OL and dominated on every level the Broncos offense.

Tell your wife that for me buddy....

The 'great' talk about defense stems from the 43-8 score which wouldn't have been anywhere near as lopsided if not for knowing the what and where of the Broncos offense. I'm not saying nor implying anything the defense did was wrong because it wasn't. Calling a play right on defense before the ball is snapped happens but not that frequently as obviously happened in this super bowl. Its ridiculous to the point of embarrassment and blame lies entirely with the Broncos.

There was no 'knowing', that would imply spy gate type tatics. Our defense was well studied, and just 'guessed correctly on some plays. Besides... even if you knew it was a pass play (oh really??) and then even knew play call, Payton still makes audibles, slide protection, ect... and then still he has multiple options in his progression, then you have to make the play.

No, I think think the whole premise of your agreement is bogus and even 'insulting to be totally honest.'

Read Sherman's quotes. No guessing. They KNEW.

That's not indicative of good defense? I beg to differ. That is solid evidence of great defense in my book. Maybe if other teams had done that, they might have had some success too. But they didn't. Then you have to wonder why. Maybe they just aren't good enough to crack the code.

So studying your opponent and figuring out his weakness is not a part of football?

If they didn't change their signals and calls all season, leaving themselves exposed, then that's their freaking problem. That's a part of defense son, masking your intent is a part of any war.

What do you think they did, stole the playbook from the gym? Come on now...

That's pure bullshit. I get tired of people saying whenever a Seahawk fan talks about the Hawks in any positive way, then it's "homerism." There's actually nothing wrong with being a homer, every fan is to a certain extent. A bias toward your favorite team. But homer Seahawk fans are also just as capable of assessing the Seahawks objectively as anyone else. As a matter of fact, Seahawk fans know far more about the Seahawks than fans of other teams do. No fans follow the Seahawks more than Seahawk fans do so they're going to know more.

And your rationale about knowing what Manning's going to do ahead of time being an argument AGAINST how good their defense is, I'm sorry but that's just wacked. Jumping routes and learning Manning's hand signals isn't good defense? That's pure war tactics. That's exploitation. In other words, that's great defense.

You want to talk about bias involving the Seahawks, just look at other fans. Most of them are incapable of assessing the team objectively. That's why there were so many out there saying the Seahawks had no chance to win anything this year. Not only did they win but they friggin KILLED it. They left no doubt at all who the best team on the planet is.

Knowing the route concepts they like to run on different downs and knowing the exact route your guy is going to run are two different things. It’s all part of the game. All good defenses do this. But to be able to anticipate and jump routes, you have to have a guy like Earl Thomas on the back end that has the instincts and the speed to recover and save the play in the event you get beat on a double move.

@BleedsBlue12 I'm honestly starting to think you let these morons lurk on here so we have someone to argue with. They bring anything to this thread.

He's at least making his opinion known, no matter how idiotic it is. SF just post nonsense and thus I'm constantly moving his posts to the rivals.

Proving ones inability to be objective is as good as saying you don't know what you're talking about in my book.

I have to respectfully disagree.

RW at least has been supportive of our run to the SB. He has his opinions but they don't cross any threshold of bad taste.

On the other hand all SF has done is post nonsense about how we were going to lose, how we had no Championships and then totady post Hitler videos in the main forum. Also SF's Avatar is a cleaver chopping a Seahawk's head off. SF comprises 90% of the moderation on this site and in my book that's entirely too much. You don't see the posts I have to move and delete.

If that's your idea of contributing then I suppose we just have a difference of opinion.

Whatever you say boss...

No I don't see all the posts you delete, and it wouldn't hurt my feelings if either of them 'disappeared'.
But hey, I'll just keep blasting as they troll on, with such garbage as, "Sherman knew the plays, so they are not a top defense" and other such asinine passive aggressive ways of diminishing the Seahawks dominance this season.
