This is the franchise that's going to contend next year , right Rammy , l

Oakland then ticketed insane money for the bank account of Rodger Saffold, who was on my list of riskiest free agents because he can't stay on the field. In no universe was Saffold, a tackle better suited to play guard, worth $21 million in guaranteed money. This was ludicrous, even by Raiders standards.

So of course, from the department of "You can't make this stuff up," a day after reaching this wild contract agreement with Saffold, it's voided because he doesn't pass the Raiders' physical.

Seriously, you really can't make this stuff up.

To add to the chaotic state, the St. Louis Rams then instantly decided to re-up Saffold. It's all rather embarrassing.

Well not knowing the numbers involved (I hope a modest raise at most) this isn't as moronic a move as it seems. Saffold has had difficulty remaining on the field. No question about it. It is the only knock against him. He has played both tackle positions and guard seamlessly. Last season he seriously excelled at guard (in addition to his versatility) which is why he was highly sought after in free agency. This move speaks volumes about Fisher wanting as much continuity with the O line as possible for Bradford's return. Probably greatly impacts the Rams early round drafting too. Saffold is a risk but one for various reasons Fisher is willing to take. Guarantee this means the Rams are planning to throw the ball much more than most think.

Just say it was a dufus move signing an obviously injured player who failed a physical and get it over with. You sound like an attorney.

That's $19.5 Million guaranteed for a guy who may or may not be able to play next season?

Or do you think they scammed the Raiders into giving the Lambs a free physical? LOL What a bargain!

I can't wait for the Hawks to spank the Lambies in just a few short months!

If he can't play sure it would be a dumb move. However he was the Rams top priority in free agency. From what I can find out the amount was far less than the Raiders offer of guaranteed money which does seem outrageous. Looks like he'll make the money by playing which is more reasonable considering his injury history. Raiders claim his shoulder needs surgery while the Rams and St. Louis media watched him bench 400 lbs just fine. More like the Raiders wanted out of paying all that guaranteed money. Word is he'll start at LG if Long can return at LT. If healthy this should be by far the best O line the Rams have had in a decade.

Sure it does. AZ had interest too. Went to Oakland first and got the deal he was looking for and signed. Worst thing you could do is wait around until demand is filled by the few choice free agents at that position. Rams said their offer still stands and Saffold chose to accept. He definitely got a raise though he needs to play to really make bank. If he can stay healthy this is a huge signing for the Rams.
