The Seahawks have signed Brandon Smith, a rookie wide receiver who played at Arizona State.
To clear a spot on the 90-man roster, tackle Caz Piurowski was waived/injured.
Smith has size (6-2, 202) and speed, but played in only 19 games in college – including seven last season. He sat out the 2009 season because of an injury and also did not see any action in 2007. Smith had a 27.8-yard average per reception in 2006, when he made six of 10 career catches.
He joins a crowded, and talented, wide receiver group that includes starters Mike Williams and Sidney Rice; versatile backups Golden Tate and Ben Obomanu; and promising rookies Doug Baldwin, Ricardo Lockette and Kris Durham.
