I have always had doubts. Still do. How can you not after his first run in the NFL? That said, he says he found himself when taking that year off between the Patriots and USC. He had a lot of success at USC, so I am willing to give him a shot.
I feel better, too, because Dave Wyman said on...
He has not been on the decline since his rookie year. He had an off year last year because he had to at least attempt to help block with our horrid o-line. But his first two years are nearly identical. He has much more value to a team needing a receiving tight end than a 7th rounder.
And this one this morning:

He talks about it at 5:45.
Yeah. I think "retired" is the way to put it. Here is the article I was referring to posted on Monday: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/08/23/carson-palmer-still-hasnt-officially-retired/
Yeah, Jackson was an FA. But Palmer has not technically retired. He just has not shown up to camp. He has yet to file for retirement. At least that's what I read on PFT a couple days back.
Carroll: Jackson the Starter
So it was for the first preseason game and Week 1 v. the 49ers. I misspoke when I said "not for any specific preseason game."
Jackson Week 1 Starter
He was named the starter for Week 1 in San Francisco. That's it. Not for any specific preseason game nor for any other regular season game after Week 1 (although I would be very surprised to see him yanked as soon as Week 2).
Restructured contract with two years lopped off and a year of guaranteed money removed = BUST. He will not be a Seahawk past 2012. Hopefully we can trade him sometime soon and get good value because he probably CAN succeed in the proper defense.
