Well its a split decision between the Bengals and Seahawks front 7. From footballoutsiders.com/stats/dl :

NFL averages for each stat given in red.
Why are these rankings different from the team defense DVOA ratings for rushing? Among other reasons, they don't include quarterbacks or fumbles, long runs are truncated, and a different set of adjustments is used, attempting to isolate line play rather than total team defense.
A team with a high ranking in Adjusted Line Yards but a low ranking in Open Field Yards has a strong defensive line but its linebackers and secondary have difficulty in pursuit and tackling. A team with a low ranking in Adjusted Line Yards but a high ranking in Open Field Yards generally allows runners to get past the defensive line but the linebackers and secondary are good at pursuit and tackling. A low ranking in Adjusted Line Yards with a high ranking in Open Field Yards is often an indicator of a 3-4 defensive scheme, though there are exceptions.
Stats in blue represent pass rush . Teams are ranked according to Adjusted Sack Rate, which gives sacks (plus intentional grounding penalties) per pass attempt adjusted for down, distance, and opponent. Pass rush stats are explained further here. Our sack totals may differ slightly from official NFL totals depending on the league's retroactive statistical adjustments.

There's nothing I can't stand more than a wimpy ass pc lib. If a woman commentating on football says something idiotic, she's bumping right up against the stereotype about women and football and is going to be called on it. That's just the way it is.

That's one helluva front seven in Cincinnati. So dominating in fact they lost at home to the Chargers in the first round, who lost to Denver in the 2nd round, who got their ass handed to them by the Seahawks in the Super Bowl. Molly Qerim can have Cincinnati's front seven and so can you.

Oh wait, now that we're ranking front sevens and not QBs, we can say it wasn't the front seven that impacted that game but Russell Wilson right? Then when the talk goes to QBs and we pan Wilson, it's because he's a gravy trainer who is riding a great defense and run game. Right LOL

She based her argument on stats which is no different than so many guys do. I'm definitely not pc.

If you would have taken the effort to read the stat explanation you would see there is discernment within the stats of the front seven between the linemen and LBs. It accurately shows the difference in strength between the two. Certainly does for the Rams. I posted the link for the stats so look at it. That is all she did as well as most all other talking heads. I have no idea where your reference to Wilson came from. You must be arguing that with someone else.:p

Geno Atkins is better than anyone in our front 7, Michael Johnson is a beast, so is Vontaze Burfict. That isn't a ridiculous claim to make.

He's better than anyone on a lot of teams' front seven. You're right. The two fronts are comparable. I had the Bengals as my preseason dark horse in the AFC, mainly because of their front seven and overall depth being arguably the best in the conference. I would have had them as the favorites, even over Denver, if not for the hot and cold Dalton.
I'd just take the Hawks' front seven over theirs. Results don't lie. Burfict and Michael Johnson are beasts but are they better than Wagner, KJ, Avril and Bennett?

It's a toss up imo. You can't go wrong either way. I couldn't fault someone if they think the Bengals have a better front 7. We have a better defense as a whole though, obviously.

Yeah. The Bengals might be better on paper, at first glance. They might be a little better at the top end with Atkins and Burfict. The Hawks' front seven also has the LoB to back them up. The Hawks' front seven might be a bit more balanced across the board though with more depth. They got better as the season went on, especially against the run and therefore probably has more upside too. With young pups like Wagner and now Malcolm Smith, I don't think they've even peaked yet. And they just killed it in the Super Bowl.
First half of the season when the Bengals still had Atkins healthy and the Hawks were getting a bit lit up against the run, then yeah, the Bengals' front was better. By the end of the season though, it flip-flopped.
Comparable for sure. But give me the Hawks' front seven all day.
